Made by our craftsmen in Šilutė province town (South western Lithuania). Black ceramics is a unique example of Lithuanian cultural heritage. The tradition of black ceramics goes back to prehistoric times. Potters specially treated articles by firing and smoking them at a high temperature. Iron contained in clay was reduced and spread on the surface of the article in a thin layer due to which the item became almost fully water-resistant and acquired a noble metallic shine. Lithuania is one of the few locations in the world where black ceramics have been preserved and still prosper.
